All questions are objective (multiple choice) and available in Hindi and English. Each correct answer earns 4 marks and each wrong answer costs 1 mark. Full exam details are on the AMERAT exam page.
General Awareness
Static GK, general science, books and authors, current affairs and portfolios. For aviation students, it also helps to know basic facts about Indian aviation, such as the role of DGCA and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Tip: read a daily newspaper for 15 minutes and keep a short notebook of facts you can revise each week.
English
Reading comprehension, fill in the blanks, spellings, phrases and idioms, synonyms and antonyms, one-word substitution and sentence correction.
Tip: English questions are often the quickest to answer. Practise a short passage and ten vocabulary words every day.
Mathematics
Sets, relations and functions; complex numbers and quadratic equations; matrices and determinants; permutations and combinations; mathematical induction; binomial theorem; sequences and series; limits, continuity and differentiability; integral calculus; differential equations; coordinate geometry (straight lines, circles, conic sections); three-dimensional geometry; vector algebra; statistics and probability; trigonometry; mathematical reasoning.
Tip: focus on formulas and standard results. Trigonometry, calculus and coordinate geometry carry many quick questions.
Physics
Physics and measurement; kinematics; laws of motion; work, energy and power; rotational motion; gravitation; properties of solids and liquids; thermodynamics; kinetic theory of gases; oscillations and waves; electrostatics; current electricity; magnetic effects of current and magnetism; electromagnetic induction and alternating current; electromagnetic waves; optics; dual nature of matter and radiation; atoms and nuclei; electronic devices; communication systems.
Tip: mechanics, fluids and electricity are also the base of aircraft systems you will study later in AME, so learn them well.
Chemistry
Basic concepts; chemical thermodynamics; solutions; equilibrium; redox reactions and electrochemistry; chemical kinetics; surface chemistry; periodic classification; isolation of metals; hydrogen; s-, p-, d- and f-block elements; coordination compounds; purification and characterisation of organic compounds; basic principles of organic chemistry; hydrocarbons; isomerism and IUPAC nomenclature; organic compounds containing halogens, oxygen and nitrogen; polymers.
Tip: revise the periodic table, chemical bonding and basic organic reactions; they appear often in objective papers.
